I’ve been eating a lot of mandarins over the past 2-1/2 months or so. Even though I buy the same brand, in the same sized bag (3kg), there tends to be variance in the mandarins from one lot to the next. Sometimes they are a little larger or smaller, the skin may be harder to peel off or pulls off easily. The last batch bought were significantly larger than the previous ones. The larger one had 9 wedges inside, weighed 226g, had a circumference of 25.1cm and was relatively easy to peel (the skin didn’t quite fall off, but neither was it a struggle to get it off). The smaller one had 8 wedges, weighed 57 grams, had a circumference of 16.3cm and was quite difficult to peel (the skin was very thin, with little pith and quite firmly attached to the flesh inside). I was surprised that there was so little difference in their circumference. I measured twice just to be sure. I was sure the larger one was bigger than 25.1 cm. |
