Don't like the taste of milk? Looking for some way to make it taste better and make it healthier? Why not try a smoothie?
The basics for a smoothie are milk, bananas and some fruit. The bananas help to thicken it up. The fruit helps to sweeten it.
2 cups of milk 1 banana 1 cup of fruit (mangoes, pineapple, strawberries, peaches, etc. Fresh or frozen.) 1 tsp Vanilla (optional)
Place the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
You can add blueberries, but they will thicken the smoothie. Try it. Add a cup of blueberries, blend and let stand 10 minutes. It will have the consistency of yoghurt. Not too worry! Just stir and it will liquefy again. Apparently, blueberries contain a lot of soluble fibre - most of that in the form of pectin. Under acidic conditions (say the vitamin C from the mangoes or pineapple) pectin gels. You can use milk substitutes as well. I happen to be partial to rice drinks (liek Rice Dream) - buy the fortified ones. They are a little bit chalky tasting at first, but they have the advantage (at least for me) of not leaving me with curdled milk breath (I also snore more if I consume dairy before going to bed. sigh. No more warm glasses of milk with honey before bed. Read 2 Comments... >> |

"Revolt can take many forms. And here we have three specific instances. Youth with its enthusiasm which rebels against any accepted norm - because it must and we sympathise. It may wear flowers in its hair and bells on its toes but when the common good is threatened - when the function of society is endangered such revolt must cease. It is non-productive and must be abolished." "The accused has been charged with the most serious breach of social etiquette - total defiance of the elementary laws which sustain our community - questioning the decision of those elected to govern us - unhealthy habits of speech and dress not in accordance with general practice - and refusal to observe, wear or respond to his number." Taken from The Prisoner episode 'Fall Out' You can watch a clip from which these dialogues are taken from. I warn you, it is a bit wierd.

Salads should be palatable without having to add oil or other fatty dressings to help it down the gullet. This salad is moist, tasty and fat free. - 2-3 tomatoes
- 1 tin of French cut beans
- salt
- pepper
- dice the tomatoes
- drain the green beans
- season the tomatoes
- mix in the green beans
Variations are very easy for this salad. Additional seasoning variations: - garlic
- green onions
- chives
- cilantro
- dill
- parmesan / romano
- anything you might like
You also don't have to limit yourself to French cut beans, baby corn, mushrooms, chopped celery, bits of cheese, etc can also be added. Below is a tomato salad with French cut beans and baby corn.
You could season it with vinegar or lemon / lime juice if you are so inclined, but I don't think it needs it. Read 7 Comments... >> |
